Luis Suarez is my Player of the year says Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers has described Luis Suarez as phenomenal and has said that the striker is, out of all the players in the Barclays Premier League, his player of the year.

Suarez has had a magnificent season for Liverpool with him netting 25 goals in 37 matches this season for Liverpool so far and has recently won his fourth player of the month award as voted for by the fans this season.

Photo of Luis Suarez.Suarez has received a lot of praise for his footballing performances this season from Rodgers and others and in his pre Wigan match press conference Rodgers was quick to say Suarez’s name when asked who his player of the year was.

Rodgers said: “Who is my player of the year? Luis Suarez. Luis Suarez has been phenomenal, and that’s just not an opinion as his manager. This is a guy who has had to play upfront on his own here. He was the only striker for nearly six months and never missed a day’s training and played every minute of every game, and his performances have spoken for themselves really.”

“There are many great players in this league but for me he’s been absolutely outstanding, and I couldn’t look much further than Luis to be honest.”

Rodgers was also asked about the Suarez and Sturridge partnership, which is already showing signs of developing into something special.

Rodgers said: “They are two top players and they’ve got different qualities and strengthens, and you’ve seen Luis and his cleverness all season and his movement and intensity in his game, and when I came into here everyone was talking about his finishing and how many chances he had missed, but if you look at his conversion rate this year and the goals that he has put away he has been brilliant. He’s a terrific focal point for the team.”

“Daniel’s a different type. Again he’s hungry for goals. He wants to play on the shoulder his movement is really good, and so is his power, running and shooting ability. But when both play in and around each other they find the spaces really well, but with Daniel you’ve got that possibility to play in behind and penetrate either over the top or in between and obviously when he’s away he’s very hard to catch because he’s so fast.”

“So there a real potent threat and we’ve got others in the team who have got huge quality as well. So that partnership and that cohesion is growing all the time and as I've said it’s pleasing to see.”
